Cookie Information vs OneTrust

Which cookie consent tool fits your site best?

A comparison between Cookie Information (often CookieInfo) and OneTrust is a heavyweight bout in the highest business class. Both platforms focus on securing data on a formidable scale and relieve the largest organizations, banks, and governments in the world.

Where they are identical

Both platforms maintain an uncompromising focus on strict, irrefutable compliance with the GDPR and CCPA. They scan your infrastructure, block trackers, and store the consent data of millions of users watertight as evidence. While SMEs often use solutions that are live in ten minutes, both systems require integration with company-wide IT systems and work seamlessly with Google Consent Mode v2.

Where the difference lies

Focus. Although both systems manage the banner, it stops there for Cookie Information. They focus exclusively on perfectly managing your cookies across all your complex, international domains. OneTrust takes a broader approach. With them, the cookie banner is just one of dozens of modules in their all-encompassing "Trust Intelligence Platform". They also automate vendor risk assessments, data mapping across all your internal systems, and policy management.

Data Location. Cookie Information is originally Danish and emphasizes guaranteed, exclusive data processing within the EU. OneTrust is a giant from the United States (although they offer local hosting options for European enterprise clients).

Budget. Cookie Information is absolutely not a budget option (the 'usage-based' model quickly shoots past $20 per month, often towards hundreds of dollars depending on the volume), but OneTrust operates in a class of its own. Licenses at OneTrust for such modular packages typically start from around $1000 per month, excluding expensive external consultancy hours.

Our recommendation

For the public sector and large European organizations, we recommend Cookie Information. It covers compliance around your website cookies perfectly, keeps your data obligatorily within the EU, and prevents you from paying for heavy enterprise modules (as with OneTrust) that you might not use anyway.

Choose OneTrust exclusively if you work for a multinational or global enterprise where the IT strategy requires that all privacy issues (from data mapping and internal audits to the actual cookie banner) are housed in one and the same, pricey ecosystem.

Setting up a banner does not equal compliance. Most violations occur post-installation because scripts still load too early via Google Tag Manager. Always run a free scan after configuration to verify it actually works.
