Borlabs Cookie vs ConsentOS

Which cookie consent tool fits your site best?

The choice between Borlabs and Consentos is about weighing a polished, paid product for WordPress against a free, technical framework that you host yourself.

Where they are identical

With both solutions, the common thread is "local data". You do not have to use third-party cloud services (SaaS). Visitor consent is processed on your own server(s), giving you 100% control over your data and ensuring user privacy without sending data across borders.

Where the difference lies

Platform and Integration. Borlabs is specifically built as a plugin for the WordPress CMS. If you use WordPress, Borlabs takes the heavy lifting off your hands with automated integrations for common tools and themes. Consentos is CMS-independent, but it only comes as a framework. You will have to install it on a server yourself and configure the logic for the website via code.

Costs and Time. Borlabs is not free. You pay a fixed, annual license (starting around $5 per month) per website. In return, you get a working product and support. Consentos is open-source and completely free of licensing costs, but the implementation time is substantial. Furthermore, Consentos lacks features like automated cookie scans, meaning you have to manually map and block all your trackers.

Target Audience. Borlabs targets website owners, agencies, and WordPress administrators looking for a reliable tool that just works. Consentos targets purely IT companies and developers looking for a foundation to build their own consent architecture upon.

Our recommendation

For almost any regular website (and specifically WordPress sites), we recommend Borlabs. The licensing costs are more than offset by the hundreds of dollars in development hours you save because automatic script-blocking works out-of-the-box.

Choose Consentos exclusively if you are part of a development team with strict requirements regarding independent infrastructure, you do not use WordPress, and you are willing to invest in manually setting up your cookie logic.

Setting up a banner does not equal compliance. Most violations occur post-installation because scripts still load too early via Google Tag Manager. Always run a free scan after configuration to verify it actually works.
